If you are an oily skin type, then I'm sure that you have gotten pretty frustrated from time to time in trying to find the right powder for your skin type. If that sounds like you, then it is best to look for a quality powder that will work to absorb and control oil all day long.
One thing to keep in mind is that you really do not want to use any harmful filler ingredients in your powder because that will only work to clog your pores and cause breakouts with your oily skin type. You do need to look for a matte powder for a longer lasting wear, and it is best to apply a pressed powder with a cosmetic puff or sponge. When you apply, make sure that you are pressing down and not rubbing from side to side because that will only work to smear your makeup on your oily skin. The pressing or blotting motion will allow you to apply the powder and press your makeup into place.
A few good choices to look for in oil absorbing coverage powders are MAC Blot Powder Pressed Powder, Maybelline Dream Matte Pressed Powder, and Clinique Stay-Matte Sheer Pressed Powder. These are all quality brand choices that will help to set your foundation in place so that you have a longer wear for your face makeup. It is also a good idea to keep oil blotting papers with you all day long so that you can control shine in areas of high oil production.
One great thing to keep in mind about being an oily skin type is that it does not necessarily have to be the kiss of death. Oil keeps your skin lubricated, making it much less likely to be dehydrated and dry. This means that as opposed to drier skin types, you will be less likely to show signs of premature age on your face. This is because oil does work as a natural lubricant, and it also keeps your skin young. So even if you feel frustrated about having shine build up throughout the day, you can think of it as a blessing in disguise because you will stay looking younger for longer!
One good product to keep on hand for oil control is MAC's Blotting Powder, which is a translucent powder that will go onto your skin clear. It will dry up excess oil and also leave you with a matte finish. This is great to keep on hand on a day-to-day basis because it will work to absorb excess oil and shine that accumulates in areas like your T-zone. It is also effective because it does not wash out your face or change it a different color since it does go on clear in its coverage.
Last but not least, consider an oil control gel or serum to dry up oil before you even apply your makeup. This is a great way to give a longer life to your foundation and powder for a beautiful every day makeup application!

Good advice on how to apply
Good advice on how to apply the powder. A lot of people rub it onto their skin, which only causes foundation to streak, blotting is a much better way to apply. Previously I used MAC blotting powder, but my skin is so insanely oily I was spending a fortune on it because I needed to use it so often. I switched to a similar powder called Mattify Loose Powder. It functions even better than the MAC and is much cheaper (around 8 bucks at mattifycosmetics.com for a 30g sifter jar). I wish Mattify would come up with a pressed powder so it would be easier to carry with me in a pocket! But, the good part is, touch-ups aren't necessary too often. I keep a jar of it in my car and use it on my lunch break, then don't have to use it again for hours. It's a heaven sent item for people with oily skin!

I've discovered a Sheer
I've discovered a Sheer Mattifying Compact that I absolutely love! It is by Shiseido. I never would have thought of buying any products from Shiseido, but I'm glad I did. It makes you look so natural once it sets. It is not cakey or thick. It feels light and buildable coverage.
