Summertime Makeup Tips

As the seasons change, it is so important to adjust your makeup accordingly, especially since the summertime can bring heat and humidity with it, making your makeup look not so friendly. There are easy ways to fix that with some simple tips to keep you looking fresh from the beach to the pool. Ready?

Firstly, when starting with makeup for your skin, it is best not to use a heavy foundation in the summertime, so go for a mineral makeup foundation powder or a tinted moisturizer. It may feel uncomfortable at first, but less is truly more because it will look cakey or heavy to wear full foundation outdoors or to the pool. Blend the mineral powder or tinted moisturizer well, and it will lay nicely on your skin and look fresh and natural. The other alternative is to go totally bare and just dust your face with translucent powder to control shine and even on your skin tone. Perfect for a day at the beach! Another great way to control oil is to use oil blotting papers throughout the day, which works best if you are in high humidity and trying not to sweat.

To keep your eye shadow looking fresh, use a primer below your eye makeup, which will hold it in place even if you are sweating. For the summertime, experiment with different eye looks, like bright greens, yellows, or pastel purples. It is also great to use shimmery shades, like a gold shimmer highlighter, to highlight your brow bone and open up your eyes in an exotic way. These colors really complement tanned skin, so they are perfect for the summertime. If you feel comfortable, then go without eyeliner entirely because it can smudge or run. If you still would like to wear eyeliner, it is best to apply a dark shadow with an eyeliner brush because it will adhere to your skin more naturally if you're spending time outdoors. Always wear a waterproof mascara for any type of outdoor activity, especially since water or sweat can cause your mascara to run right away. If you have a problem with your mascara smudging, it is best to only apply it to your upper lashes to keep your eye makeup looking fresh.

Try out some new blush colors in brighter pinks or peaches because they will work best to make you look flushed from the sun. I recommend trying a cream or gel blush because you can blend it best into your skin with clean fingertips for a more natural application than the powdered variety. It may be preferable to go without blush completely and just use a bronzer, depending on your skin tone.

It is best to start using lighter lip shades, in nude or light pink, for the summertime. Go without a lip liner because it can make your lips look too harsh for a lighter makeup look. The best way to make your lips pop is by applying clear gloss to the center of your bottom lip on top of your nude lip color, which will make your lips appear larger and more sultry. If you are going completely natural, then you can simply apply lip balm to keep your lips looking fresh and moist, and the rest of your makeup will do the job of making you look beautiful.

Nonetheless, the very best rule of thumb is to try out sheer versions of the regular colors that you prefer. For instance, if you are partial to a plum lip color, then look for a sheer plum lip gloss variety that will give you the same flattering effect, without the heavy makeup application. If you usually use deep espresso eye colors, then look for more sheer or neutral shades, like light beige or khaki, to liven up your eye area. Summer is a great time to try a huge variety of new pastel colors for your face, but it is also a great idea to check out the sheer versions of the normal colors that you prefer and know will already complement your features.

It may seem intimidating to go completely bare at first, especially if you are used to wearing more makeup on a daily basis, but you may find out that you really do prefer it. This is the best way to get a little more low maintenance, especially when you're going to be by the beach or pool, and bring out the true natural beauty within you!
